Cranky Canuck Is Back
Well, I guess I couldn’t stay away forever.
I took a few months off because I needed it. Fighting disinformation, researching politics, producing cartoons, building websites, and arguing with conspiracy theorists can wear a guy down after a while.
But while I was away, I kept watching.
I kept reading.
And I kept noticing the same thing I’ve been talking about for years. The conspiracy culture may be starting to crack under the weight of its own nonsense, but the machine behind it is still running full speed. The more I dug into the stories, the more I kept finding the same patterns. Disinformation. Division. Anti-democratic movements. Culture-war outrage. And far more often than most people realize, Russia sitting somewhere in the background helping pour fuel on the fire.
That’s one of the reasons Cranky is back.
The other reason is simple.
I’m tired of watching Ontario get steamrolled by politicians who treat governing like a marketing campaign. I’m tired of Doug Ford’s secrecy and endless scandals. I’m tired of Pierre Poilievre importing American-style culture-war politics into Canada. And I’m tired of watching people like Jamil Jivani pretend they’re defending Canada while helping drag our politics further into the mud.
So I came back the only way I know how.
With cartoons, music, satire, and a giant middle finger aimed directly at bad ideas.
The project you’re watching here is the first release in that new direction. It’s a three-part political rap cartoon inspired by the boom-bap hip-hop I grew up listening to in the late 90s and early 2000s. It mixes animation, satire, political commentary, and a few new characters I’ve been building while rebuilding the Cranky Canuck universe from the ground up.
Most importantly, it’s fun.
Because that’s something I’ve learned after years of doing this. Facts matter. Research matters. Evidence matters. But if people aren’t entertained, they stop listening. Humour gets through walls that facts alone sometimes can’t.
You’ll also be seeing a lot more discussion about Ukraine, NAFO, disinformation networks, and the growing influence of foreign propaganda inside democratic countries. Ukraine is fighting a war on the front lines of both a military conflict and an information war. If you’d like to learn more about NAFO and what they do, I encourage you to take a look and support Ukraine however you can.
For now, I’m just glad to be back.
The website is being rebuilt. The cartoons are back. The music is back. The research never stopped.
And we’re just getting started.
Thanks for stopping by, thanks for supporting the project, and thanks for helping spread the work around. Every share, every comment, and every conversation helps push back against the flood of lies, propaganda, and manufactured outrage that seems determined to poison everything it touches.
Anyway, enough serious shit.
I’ve got cartoons to make.
Stay frosty.
